Adult Vaccinations

Adults need vaccinations too to stay healthy and prevent disease. Adults need to keep their vaccinations up to date because immunity from childhood vaccines can wear off over time. You are also at risk for different diseases as an adult. Vaccination is one of the most convenient and safest preventive care measures available. Please consult with your primary healthcare provider.

Updates:

• The 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccines are now available at the Shasta County Public Health Immunization Clinic.

• The Shasta County Public Health Immunization Clinic is a participant of the Bridge Access Program (BAP).

• Flu vaccines are now available at the Shasta County Public Health Immunization Clinic.

• Recent reports of measles cases around the country remind us about the importance of vaccination, which provides protection against serious illness.  Learn more at: CDC: Measles Cases and Outbreaks  

• Make​ sure you and your children are up to date on the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine and other recommended vaccines, including flu and COVID-19.

How Do I Know Which Vaccines I Need?

• You may need other vaccines based on your age, health conditions, job, lifestyle, or travel habits.

• Check out CDC's What Vaccines are Recommended for You page to learn more about what other vaccines may be recommended for you and talk to your healthcare professional about which vaccines are right for you and what vaccines you may be missing.

• You can also use CDC's  Adult Vaccine Assessment Tool to find out what vaccines are recommended for adults based on age, health conditions, job, and other factors.

Which Vaccines Are Recommended? 

•  COVID-19 vaccine  

• Influenza (flu) vaccine

• Td or Tdap vaccine (booster) every 10 years or after 5 years in the case of a severe or dirty wound or burn.  Women should get the Tdap vaccine during the early part of the 3rd trimester of every pregnancy.

Are You 50 Years Old And Older?

• For adults 50 and older, the Shingles vaccine is recommended to protect against shingles and PHN. Please consult with your healthcare provider.  The Shingles vaccine is available at local pharmacies and at our clinic.

• For adults 60 years and older (older adults), the RSV vaccine is recommended to protect against RSV disease and is now available at your local pharmacies.  The RSV vaccine for older adults is not available at our clinic, but it is available at local pharmacies. Please consult with your healthcare provider.

Are You 32 To 36 Weeks Pregnant?

• For people who are 32 through 36 weeks pregnant, the maternal RSV vaccine  is recommended  to be given during September through January, in order to protect mothers and their unborn babies against RSV disease.

• Babies born to mothers who get RSV vaccine at least 2 weeks before delivery will have protection and, in most cases, should not need an RSV immunization later.  

• The maternal RSV vaccine is not available at our clinic. Please consult with your healthcare provider for vaccine availability and eligibility.

Are You Up To Date With Your MMR Vaccine?

• You can check your digital vaccine record to see if you have received it: Digital Vaccine Record

• Please note that not all of your immunization record information may be complete depending if your provider inputted it on the California Immunization Record (CAIR2).

• For adults without presumptive immunity, they should get at least 1 dose. They are still eligible for 2 doses and for some it is still a standard recommendation to get both.

• International travel can influence this, as well as occupational setting (such as healthcare workers) or college attendance.

What Are The Immunization Requirements For California Colleges And Universities?

• Vaccine-preventable diseases and outbreaks continue to occur on college campuses, including measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), and meningococcal disease.

Uninsured Or No Preventive Care Insurance?

• Most vaccines are also available at local pharmacies. Regardless of income, vaccine discounts may apply to you, even if you have medical insurance.

Where Can You Get Vaccinated?

• Contact your primary healthcare provider to find out what vaccines you may be missing.

• If any vaccinations are not available at your provider or you do not have a provider, please see the list of local vaccine providers and pharmacies that offer vaccinations below or contact the Shasta County Public Health Clinic. Please see our immunization clinic fees and prices for private insured clients.
