The California Healthy Brain Initiative

Through California Healthy Brain Initiative funding, Shasta County is addressing the high rate of Alzheimer’s and dementia in our community. The initiative promotes brain health through awareness and educational campaigns, and addresses the needs of caregivers through local partnerships.

Free Healthy Brain Initiative Classes:

Looking to learn more about your caregiver journey? Just looking to learn more about brain health? Learn great information all spring with our educational classes. Open to anyone in the general public. Join us for our next class on May 15. Learn about the basics of communicating with someone with dementia on Wednesday, May 15. Class will be from 11:00am - 12:00pm in the Boggs Building of the Shasta County Health and Human Services Breslauer Campus, 2420 Breslauer Way Redding, CA 96001.  Register by clicking here.

Explore ways that Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect an individual’s ability to communicate across different stages, and get tips to better communicate with people living with the disease.

Managing Money: A Caregiver's Guide to Finances

Tuesday, May 21, 3-4pm

It’s never too early to put financial plans in place. Learn tips for managing someone else’s finances, how to prepare for future care costs and the benefits of early planning.

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body

Monday, June 3, 12-1pm

Learn research-based recommendations about taking care of our brains and our bodies in order to age as well as possible and learn tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging.

Learn basic information on the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, risk factors, research and FDA-approved treatments.

10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's
Monday, June 10, 3-4pm
Learn to recognize common signs of the disease in yourself and others and next steps to take, including how to talk to your doctor.

Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors
Friday, June 14, 12-1pm
Review caregiver tips and strategies to respond to some common behaviors exhibited by individuals living with dementia, such as agitation, confusion and more.
