Public Works Obtains Grants to Fund Sugarloaf Water System Repairs

fix a leak

Household leaks waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water nationwide every year, enough to provide water to over 11 million homes. During Fix a Leak Week (March 18 to March 24), the Department of Water Resources (DWR) encourages everyone to find and fix leaks inside and outside their home to save water.

One of the Leak-Fixing projects DWR is helping to fund to address aging water infrastructures is right here in Shasta County!

Sugarloaf is a small water system in the Lakehead Area that serves about 65 customers.  With serious leaks and insufficient revenue to make needed repairs, the system was losing approximately 80% of its water.  Shasta County Public Works obtained a $2.7M Drought Relief Grant to fund the distribution system repairs and install a new storage tank.  This was in addition to a $500K planning grant that provided the Preliminary Engineering Report to obtain the Construction Grant.  The entire project is 100% grant funded as the entire service area is considered a “Disadvantaged Community".  Let's give a big hand to our amazing Public Works Departments for finding creative solutions for bringing needed resources to our County.
