Changing Your Child Support Order

What is a modification? Learn more about it here.

As circumstances change, your support order might need to be modified (changed). Either parent may request a change to their child support order. A Child Support Professional will guide parents through the process.

Per state guidelines, child support agencies must ask the court to modify an existing child support court order if the child support guideline calculator indicates that monthly child support should be increased or decreased by at least $50.00 or 20%, whichever is less.

You can negotiate a change to your child support order through our office and avoid going to court. Ask us more about our Family Conference opportunity.

If an agreement cannot be reached, a motion will be filed with the court and both parents would receive a copy in the mail, including details of any upcoming court hearings.

Until an order for child support is modified, the child support amount in the existing order must be paid. Contact us right away if there is a change in circumstances.

How to Request a Modification Review:

  • Online: For your convenience, we encourage you to access your case information on the Customer Connect portal and select the option to “Modify Your Order.”
