Sean Ewing Selected as Director of Resource Management

Sean Ewing, PE, CBO, has been selected as the new Director of Resource Management. Ewing has been offered and accepted the position, with the official appointment by the Board of Supervisors scheduled for October 15, 2024. He brings a wealth of experience in civil engineering, public service, and management, having most recently served as the Building Division Manager and Building Official for Shasta County. His appointment follows the departure of former Director Paul Hellman, who left the position in September of this year. 

Ewing, a licensed civil engineer and certified building official, has been with Shasta County since 2022. In his role as Building Division Manager, he led a comprehensive overhaul of the division, improving customer service, staff morale, and community trust. His leadership and innovative approach to problem-solving have been widely recognized within the department and by external stakeholders. Prior to his time with the County, Ewing spent over 15 years in private industry, working in various facets of civil engineering and project management.

"His commitment to modernizing processes and his deep understanding of our community make him the ideal candidate to guide the Department of Resource Management into the future."

As Director, Ewing will oversee the County's Resource Management Department, which includes the Building Division, Planning Division, Environmental Health Division, and Air Quality Management District. His vision for the department includes streamlining operations, improving regulatory compliance, and enhancing collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies.

Ewing holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State University, Chico, and has resided in Shasta and Tehama counties for most of his life. His deep ties to the region and passion for serving his community will play a pivotal role in ensuring the department's success.
