Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
The SCFD EMS program is overseen by Fire Captain/EMS Coordinator Steve Chapman. the Shasta County Fire Department has the responsibility for all medical aid incidents outside of incorporated cities and districts in Shasta County. It is imperative to provide a high level of care to those who call 9-1-1 and request medical assistance.
In 2021, the department responded to approximately 3,200 emergency medical calls, and 500 traffic collisions. Approx. 1,200 of these calls were in the outlying areas of the county. These are the areas where ambulance response time is the longest, about 30 minutes. this requires these responders to care for the patients for extended periods of time, requiring them to be proficient in their skills and knowledge. The department dedicates two and a half months every year to EMS training, delivering over 1,000 hours of instruction.
