Opportunity Center Transition Talks to Continue

Shasta County Board Chambers

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors continues to evaluate potential operational efficiencies at the Opportunity Center (OC) with discussions to continue in 2023.

The Health and Human Services Agency operates the OC, which has served to offer employment opportunities to Shasta County adults with developmental disabilities since 1964. Shasta County is the only county in California to offer such a program in lieu of private non-profit (PNP) providers.

Operating costs for the OC have periodically exceeded revenues, depleting OC fund reserves. Without these reserves the OC will eventually need to reduce their services. Protecting the wellbeing of this vulnerable population remains the top priority for the Board of Supervisors. They seek to provide OC clients with the smoothest transition possible, or no transition at all.
