Employee of the Month- Craig Isberg

Shasta County is proud to announce that Craig Isberg, Maintenance Supervisor in the Public Works - Roads Department, has been named Employee of the Month for September 2024. Craig’s long-standing commitment to excellence, leadership, and dedication to his work has earned him this distinguished recognition.

Craig has been a vital member of the Shasta County Public Works team since 1991, when he began his career as an Equipment Mechanic. His skills and work ethic quickly distinguished him, leading to his promotion to Maintenance Supervisor in 2012. Over the past three decades, Craig has made substantial contributions to the County’s operations, particularly in maintaining the extensive fleet of vehicles and equipment used by various departments.

Craig’s role may often be behind the scenes, but the impact of his work is felt across the County. His primary responsibility is ensuring that essential equipment, including heavy trucks, trailers, and construction vehicles, are operational year-round in all types of weather conditions. He supports the Roads and Facilities divisions of Public Works, going out of his way to assist wherever needed, treating every team member as a valuable part of the larger operation. His attention to detail and efficiency in keeping equipment running smoothly makes him an indispensable resource for the County.

In addition to his technical expertise, Craig is known for his innovative thinking. A recent example of this was his suggestion to utilize a Roads forklift to handle shredded materials for the County’s confidential waste disposal, reducing the risk of employee injury, saving time, and cutting costs by decreasing dependence on external services. This solution exemplifies Craig’s ability to think creatively and develop practical, cost-saving initiatives that benefit the County as a whole.

As a leader, Craig is highly regarded for his ability to motivate his team and delegate tasks effectively, ensuring that the strengths of each crew member are utilized. His colleagues consistently praise his positive attitude, noting that he is always approachable and ready to help with a smile. Craig’s commitment to customer service extends beyond his immediate team—he is courteous and collaborative with outside vendors, fostering strong working relationships that enhance his department’s efficiency.
