Employee of the Month

Jennifer Berger has been named Shasta County's Employee of the Month for January 2023!  Jennifer is a Child Support Attorney II for Shasta County Child Support Services Department.

The child support system is complex and can be challenging, especially for unrepresented parties.  Ms. Berger takes extra time after court to engage with customers, sometimes walking out with them to allow them the opportunity to ask follow-up questions. She is an excellent representative of the Child Support Program.

Ms. Berger provides support to department staff to ensure legal actions are complete and accurate.  She takes the time to meet with staff and discuss recommended changes, which she approaches as teaching moments. Recently, she worked with several staff to provide examples on what types of information the attorneys need when drafting pleadings based upon the case managers' investigative findings.

Due to a vacant attorney allocation, Ms. Berger's overall caseload has increased significantly, which, in turn, caused a substantial increase in the quantity of work needed to be completed. She has taken on additional assignments, which includes preparing and reviewing motions outside of her assigned caseload. She has proven herself as a valuable leader within the department. Ms. Berger participated in the department's "Did You Know?" internal informational publication by providing valuable information in a concise, easy-to-read format. She is now working on developing a small-group training series that will be presented to child support staff an interpersonal, conversational style.

Ms. Berger is a great supporter of the Child Support Awareness Month annual backpack drive. She diligently performs her job duties with professionalism and integrity and understands her role as a Child Support Attorney. She is a team player and embodies the department's core values of integrity, responsibility, service, communication, and respect.
