Employee of the Month – June 2024
Dr. John Mahoney, Clinical Psychologist III with HHSA, has been selected as the Employee of the Month for June 2024.
Dr. Mahoney has dedicated over twenty years of exemplary service to the County. His long-standing commitment, coupled with his high level of professionalism and respectfulness, has made him a cornerstone of the Adult Mental Health division. Renowned for his strong patient care, Dr. Mahoney is deeply client-oriented, skillfully handling severe cases, conducting assessments, and determining grave disability among the mentally ill population. His meticulous evaluations for conservatorship and competency to stand trial are performed with unwavering kindness and thoroughness.
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Mahoney leads and coordinates group activities and remains accessible to clients in need. His recent collaboration with a Nurse Practitioner in the Children’s division to refine ADHD medication procedures and monitoring highlights his proactive approach to enhancing patient care. Furthermore, Dr. Mahoney has implemented a plan to facilitate face-to-face meetings for out-of-area conserved clients, ensuring they receive more consistent care.
Dr. Mahoney is a revered role model within HHSA, having trained numerous new Clinical Psychologists in the Behavioral Health and Social Services department. His reliance on comprehensive documentation and reporting from clinical teams underscores his commitment to thorough research and case studies. Additionally, he contributes to the department's educational initiatives, including the production of HIPAA-related videos, and actively participates in group activities, exemplified by his engaging chess sessions in the breakroom.
Beyond his office duties, Dr. Mahoney travels statewide to assess the mental health of conserved individuals and regularly collaborates with various entities, including the Public Guardian and County Counsel. His confident and ethical court testimonies, coupled with his calm and respectful demeanor, have earned him widespread admiration.
Despite the significant workload, Dr. Mahoney consistently performs at an exceptional level, often handling the responsibilities of three psychologists without showing signs of stress. His commitment to high clinical standards is evident in his recent supervision and training of four employees across different stages of the Psychologist classification. He generously shares his expertise and remains available for consultation, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to learning and education.
For his outstanding contributions and unwavering dedication, Dr. John Mahoney is more than deserving of recognition as Shasta County's Employee of the Month.
