600+ Backpacks Distributed in 8th Annual Backpack Giveaway
The 8th Annual Drive-Thru Backpack Giveaway Event, hosted by Shasta County Child Support Services (CSS), was a huge success! For the first time in the event's history, we did not have to turn anyone away without a backpack and we are also grateful.
This year's goal was to serve 600 Shasta County students. Through generous donations and support from the community, we exceeded that goal with a total of 660 backpacks. Over 500 were distributed at the Drive-Thru Event. For the first time in 8 years, we had backpacks left over from the event. Families then had the opportunity to come to the CSS office to pick up a backpack if they missed the event. All 660 backpacks have now been distributed.
Each backpack was filled with essential school supplies and also included children’s dental kits that were donated by the Shasta County Oral Health Program. Additionally, we handed out 600 bottles of juice to children, which were graciously donated by a local beverage distributor.
Several Community partners participated at the event to provide further resources for self-sustainability to families.
We are overwhelmed with the amazing support from the community and would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our donors and the County departments who came together to collect donations and volunteer their time.
