Meet the Auditor-Controller
Nolda Short has served Shasta County residents and the Auditor-Controller’s office in a leadership role for over 21 years. She has served in a variety of roles, including Auditor-Controller, 8 years as the Assistant Auditor-Controller, another six years as a senior-manager, and the remainder of her time has been supervising various areas of the office. Nolda has worked her way through every function in the office including financial reporting, cost plan preparation, budgeting, internal audits, systems administration and development, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, property tax, etc.
Education
Nolda has a bachelor’s degree in business with options in both Accounting and Management Information Systems. She holds a Certified Government Investment Professional (CGIP) certificate from the Government Investment Officers Association (GIOA). She also received a master certificate in High Performance Leadership from the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the Professional Development Academy. Nolda believes education is the lifeblood of every Auditor’s office and continues to actively pursue ongoing education opportunities and is current on all continuing education requirements.
Professional Affiliations
Nolda is an active member of various organizations. She is active with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), Government Investment Officers Association (GIOA), California State Association for County Auditors (CALSACA), Payroll Manager’s group, Property Tax Manager’s group, North County Auditor’s group, etc.; all of which provide vital continuing education and ensure that Shasta County’s voice is heard. This knowledge ensures that Shasta County remains compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), California State Controller requirements, County policies, and all other applicable state and federal laws.
