Shasta County Air Quality Management District Announces Revisions to Open Burning Regulations Effective November 1, 2022 

Beginning December 20, 2023 until further notice, all Fire Hazard Reduction burn permit fees are being paid for through the Prescribed Burn Reporting and Monitoring Support Program funded by the California Air Resources Board.

DETERMINATION: NO-BURN DAY BELOW 1,000 FEET IN ELEVATION

Current burn day information for Shasta County is updated at 9:00 a.m. each day. Checking this message prior to 9:00 a.m. will not give you today’s burn status. 

 Please help preserve future burn days and remain compliant by following these rules: Residential burning may include dry vegetation only. It is illegal to burn stumps or material containing construction debris, lumber, petroleum products, plastics, and garbage. Burn piles must not contain dirt. It is also illegal to use a burn barrel or burn paper and cardboard in all areas of Shasta County except where exempt.

Today is a No-Burn day in all areas of Shasta County below 1,000 feet in elevation.    

Above 1,000 feet in elevation, today is a Burn-Day for all types of burning. Burn hours are 9:00 a.m. to midnight unless your local fire authority has designated specific burn hours.

If you are burning material that has been stacked using heavy equipment such as a bulldozer, loader, or excavator, please contact the Air Quality Management District at 530-225-5674 to schedule an inspection and obtain the correct permit.
